Smokin’ Joe Frazier loses his battle against liver cancer

Joe Frazier, one of the biggest sports icons of the 1960s and 70s, passed away tonight from liver cancer at the age of 67. He was
diagnosed less than six weeks ago and spent his final days in a
Philadelphia-area hospice.
His family released this statement:
Their trilogy, contested between 1971-75, tops everything else in boxing's long history. Frazier was the first person to defeat Ali.
Outside the ring, Frazier was helpless in the p.r. battle against the loquacious and charismatic Ali. Ali made it personal before their first meeting in 1971 calling the quiet Frazier an "Uncle Tom."
Both unbeaten, Frazier met Ali in New York City's Madison Square Garden on March 8, 1971 and got his revenge on Ali's trash talk by winning "The Fight of the Century" via unanimous decision. He cemented the victory by flooring Ali with a leaping left hook, his trademark punch, in the 15th round.
To illustrate the lack of respect Frazier received from some, veteran boxing writer Jerry Izenberg told the story of the fighter greeting some kids on the streets of his adopted hometown of North Philadelphia a week after the biggest victory of his career.
The third fight in the Philippines, "The Thrilla in Manila" trumped the first two. The back-and-forth battle, ended after 14 rounds because Frazier's eyes were nearly swollen shut. His trainer, Eddie Futch, argued with his fighter before calling it a night. On a night with the temperature in Manila hovered around 100 degrees, rounds 13 and 14 were grueling. Both fighters were completely exhausted, but still wailed away at each other.
Frazier fought just two more times. He lost badly to George Foreman in 1976 and fought to a draw during a short-lived comeback in 1981.
Frazier, the son of Rubin and Dolly Frazier. was born in the poor town of Beaufort, S.C. He was the youngest of 12 children. He relocated to Philadelphia as a teenager.
While working in a slaughterhouse, Frazier began to take boxing seriously. By the time he was 20, Frazier was one of the elite heavyweight prospects in the world. He stormed to the Olympic heavyweight gold medal in 1964 in Tokyo. Six years later, he was the king of the heavyweight division, winning the WBA belt with a fifth-round TKO stoppage of Jimmy Ellis.
Frazier was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. He finished his brilliant career with professional record of 32-4-1, with 27 wins by knockout.
His family released this statement:
"We The Family of the 1964 Olympic Boxing Heavyweight Gold Medalist, Former Heavyweight Boxing Champion and International Boxing Hall of Fame Member Smokin' Joe Frazier, regrets to inform you of his passing. He transitioned from this life as "One of God's Men," on the eve of November 7, 2011at his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We thank you for your prayers for our Father and vast outpouring of love and support. In the weeks before his death, Frazier was said to have lost 50 pounds. Friends like Rev. Jesse Jackson and fellow heavyweight king Larry Holmes requested visits, but Frazier decided against it.
Respectfully, we request time to grieve privately as a family. Our father's home going celebration will be announced as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."
"Joe doesn't want to see anybody, the way he is now," his manager Les Wolff explained earlier this week. "I think you can understand why. He's a proud man."Frazier's legacy is etched in stone as part of the greatest individual rivalry in sports history. The stocky, less-than-graceful Frazier was the perfect foil for the elegant and athletic Muhammad Ali.
Their trilogy, contested between 1971-75, tops everything else in boxing's long history. Frazier was the first person to defeat Ali.

[...] Joe told them: "Now y'all stay in school.
Don't make me have to find you."
Two of them laughed, but the third one said:There was nothing he could do. Frazier, a reserved gentleman, was never going to win a trash talk battle against Ali. Ali went on to win the 1972 rematch against Frazier, again at MSG.
"My daddy says Muhammad Ali was drugged,"
In that instant a cold, cold mask seemed to slide across the champion's face. "'Yeah ... yeah," Joe said, "I drugged him with a left hook." And they saw the look in his eyes and all three of them ran away.
Frazier turned to me and said:
"You heard that. What I got to do? What the hell I got to do?"

LEO NI SIKU ALIYOFARIKI BIBI TITI MOHAMED, MMOJA WA WANAWAKE WALIOKUWA WANAHARAKATI WA UKOMBOZI WA TAIFA LETU.
Bibi Titi Mohamed
enzi za uhai wake.
Hapa akiwa na Baba
wa Taifa Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere.
Bibi Titi
Mohammed (1926 - 5 Novemba, 2000) alikuwa mmoja wa wanawake wa kwanza

Deogratius Shirima akasema maneno hayo hayo ambayo
hayapishani maana na huyu wa kwanza.
Sikuishia
hapo nikataka kujua je kuna mtu yeyote ambaye anakuja kukusanya japo ushuru

HIVI WANAFIKIRI WATATUTAWALA MPAKA LINI?
Tanzanian clerics slam threat to link aid to gay laws
Tanzanian clerics on Friday urged
their government to reject western pressure to legalise homosexuality in order
to continue receiving aid.
A catholic auxiliary bishop, Methodius Kilaini,
criticised British Prime
Minister David Cameroon for saying African countries with anti-gay
legislation could be disqualified from receiving British aid.
"Such threats are a reflection of colonial mentality. It
is better to live in poverty than accepting and legalising practices that are
against religious teaching, the law and African culture," Kilaini told AFP by
phone.
Cameron made the threat after Commonwealth
leaders failed to adopt a recommendation to call for an end to homophobic laws
in the 41 member nations at their summit in Perth, western Australia.
Kilaini appealed to the Tanzania government
and other African countries to strongly reject or ignore such "unholy"
threats.
Sheikh Ali Mkoyogole said Islam was against
homosexuality and same sex marriages. "This cannot be allowed by Muslims in
Tanzania," he said.
Under Tanzanian law sex acts between men,
including between consenting adults are illegal.
The US State Department's 2010 Human Rights
Report found that "gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons
faced societal discrimination, which restricted their access to healthcare,
housing, and employment," in Tanzania.

Feds pressure African dictator's son to surrender Ferrari, Michael Jackson's glove
The
U.S. government may soon own one of Michael Jackson's white
gloves, a $530,000 Ferrari and a $30 million Malibu estate if
it succeeds in seizing them from the son of a corrupt African
dictator.
In a case kept hidden from public view until last week, the U.S. Department of Justice says it's pursuing more than $32 million in assets from Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, whose father Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has ruled over oil-rich Equatorial Guinea for 32 years -- and has been accused by authorities around the world of illicitly siphoning hundreds of millions of dollars for himself and his family.
A 2010 U.S. Senate report detailed how Obiang the younger, known as Teodorin, had moved $110 million into the United States through shell companies and anonymous transactions, propping up a hard-partying lifestyle that included spending $30 million on one of Malibu's largest mansions and a $38.5 million Gulfstream V jet. Obiang was also known to collect supercars like they were Hot Wheels, with at least 32 cars and motorcycles at one point, including eight Ferraris, two Bugatti Veyrons and a $2 million Maserati.
While the U.S. Department of Justice has said a probe into Obiang had been
ongoing since 2004, the first signs of legal trouble for Obiang came from
France, where authorities seized 11 of his cars last month, including the $2
million Maserati MC-12. While the Justice Department had sought seven cars from
Obiang in California, its latest request mentions only one -- a 2011 Ferrari 599
GTO.
The documents unsealed last week in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles offer the first glimpse of the case built by the Justice against Obiang, accusing him of spending more than $100 million garnered from extortion and embezzlement in Equatorial Guinea. The feds also revealed how Obiang bought $3.2 million worth of memorabilia from Michael Jackson's estate earlier this year, including the white crystal-studded glove Jackson wore on the "Bad" tour, the MTV Music Video Award for "We Are The World" and several of the life-size figurines Jackson used to keep at his Neverland Ranch.
So far, no representatives of Obiang's has officially responded to the government's bid, and the Justice Department has not yet responded to a request for comment from Yahoo! Autos. Human Rights Watch, an advocacy group long critical of inaction against the Obiang family, has called on the United States and other countries to move against the clan despite their control over a key oil supply.
“The move to freeze TeodorÃn’s assets in the U.S. is overdue,” said Arvind Ganesan, business and human rights director at Human Rights Watch, in a statement. “But the real test will be if the U.S. government vigorously pursues the inquiry to its conclusion without letting diplomatic or business ties stand in the way.”

One killed, 8 wounded in Nairobi blast
A grenade thrown into a downscale Nairobi pub early Monday exploded and
wounded a dozen people two days after the U.S. warned of possible terror attacks
in Kenya's capital. Police said it was too early to name a suspect.
Any such attack in Nairobi would immediately
arouse suspicion that Somali militants from al-Shabab carried out the assault.
The al-Qaida-linked group earlier this month promised to unleash terror attacks in
Nairobi in response to a push by Kenya's military into southern Somalia.
Monday's grenade explosion, though, did not bear
the hallmarks of well-planned terror attack. The U.S. on Saturday warned
of an imminent terrorist attack and said likely targets include shopping malls
and night clubs where foreigners congregate. Conversely, the grenade explosion
occurred at a downtrodden bar where only lower-income Kenyans meet.
Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere told a
news conference Monday that the grenade exploded at 1:15 a.m. while 20 people
were inside the bar. Three people were seriously wounded, he said. The blast
overturned chairs and tables, and blood stained the floor. Iteere said police
did not yet have any suspects.
"It is too early at this point in time to
give a conclusive answer," he said, adding later: "The person who lobbed the
grenade into the pub was not seen by anybody."
Police have tightened security around hotels, bridges and fuel depots, Iteere
said.
The weapon used Monday was a Russian-made F1
grenade, he said. A similar type of grenade was used in a downtown Nairobi
attack in December 2010 at a bus station. That attack killed one person.
Three grenades exploded at a political rally in downtown Nairobi in June
2010, killing six people. In December that year two traffic police died when
they were shot and a third was seriously injured by a grenade.

kuwapata hawa wanaowatuma wahalifu kwenda kuwadhuru maalbino hawa.
